WINDOWS
Who are we when nobody’s looking?
“WINDOWS” is a docu-series that meditates on the differences between our inner- and outer-selves.
The outer self is the one other people see and speak to, meanwhile the inner self exists inside, rarely observed by the outside world.
Each installment will follow a different friend of mine and peer into who they are behind closed doors.
What parts of them do they not let anyone else see? How does their space reflect their inner life?
In voice-over, each subject will be given prompts designed to highlight the differences between their inner- and outer-selves, while exploring themes of identity and expression of self.
It’s okay to be vulnerable — and to protect yourselF
Sometimes our society places pressure on us to be vulnerable and “authentic.” Otherwise, you might be seen as “fake” and therefore dishonest.
I believe that it isn’t wrong to hide your inner self. If you don’t feel safe in your circumstances, it is okay to lean on your outer self. That’s what it was made for.
The problems arise when we ignore the duality of our identity and let the external affect the internal. In my experience, that only causes confusion between who you think you are versus the version that other people see.
